Set beside the Canal du Midi, Maison des Tonneliers is a beautifully restored house with its own private pool, set in the charming village of Homps just a short walk from restaurants.

With its pretty green shutters and quayside setting, this handsome home offers an effortless blend of old-world charm and modern comfort. Terracotta tiles, beamed ceilings and inviting interiors open out onto generous terraces and a private Mediterranean garden where a 15-metre swimming pool glistens in the southern sun.

Inside, the home has been thoughtfully arranged for relaxed gatherings and easy holiday living. The double-height living space flows into a stylish dining area and fully equipped kitchen with island, twin ovens and an ice machine for sundowners by the pool. Upstairs, three bedrooms await on the second floor, including a master en suite bedroom with super-king bed and a family shower room. In another wing of the house, a second-floor studio-style double bedroom also features its own en suite. All four bedrooms feature air-conditioning.

Outdoors, the long terrace is ideal for long, leisurely lunches or lounging beneath the shade. The pool’s stylish sun deck is ideal for afternoons with a good book, while evenings can be spent enjoying the barbecue as the night draws in.

Stroll just a few steps to the wine-shop, restaurant and grocery store with even more places to eat just a little further. In the summer it’s wonderful to be only 1.5km from Lac de Jouarres for its lakeside beach and water-based activities. Hire bikes for long cycle rides along the canal’s towpath and don’t miss the Tuesday morning market in Olonzac, 3km away.

Located 33km from the UNESCO-listed citadel of Carcassonne and within easy reach of Narbonne, Minerve and the region’s celebrated vineyards, Maison des Tonneliers is perfectly placed to explore the magic of the Languedoc. You can even reach the vast sandy shores of the Mediterranean coast within 45 minutes.

For families or groups seeking a relaxed escape with a touch of tradition and a front-row seat to canal life, this is an exceptional place to stay.
