Wander along the lakeside promenade and within 500m you will be surrounded by shops including a boulangerie, cheese and wine stores and a fish monger that sells delicious oysters. Youngsters will adore the ice-cream parlours and there is a good choice of restaurants too.

If you love the ocean, then it’s only a 5-minute drive to the vast sandy beaches of the Atlantic at Carcans Plage or drive further south to the bustling seaside resort of Lacanau, both popular with surfers. Étang de Lacanau is another idyllic spot for long nature walks and watersports or hire bikes and follow some of the magnificent trails across this incredible part of the Médoc peninsula.

The prestigious AOC vineyards near Pauillac and Margaux can be reached in around 45-minutes by car alongside Michelin starred restaurants and world-famous wine chateaux (Latour and Lafite-Rothschild to name a couple).

Not to mention the handsome city of Bordeaux, around an hour away, an absolute dream for any wine enthusiast, history lover or foodie with its vibrant restaurant scene, atmospheric markets, beautiful architecture and famous Cité du Vin wine museum.
